Ecopoem

My molecules are not my own.
My atoms are but out on loan.
What you see of me is a shell
that carries me now while I dwell
where God made my spirit from naught.
My body is part, as I’ve taught,
of a cycle designed to feed
each part with its dependent need.
I'll give that body back to Earth,
my spirit to a greater Worth,
and to you I'll leave all that's left.
If, after that, you feel bereft,
perhaps you'll read my poetry.
